1. When were you happiest?
A dawn in Venice in the autumn of 2004. I’d spent the night filming a chase scene for the movie Casanova and I was in a water taxi back to my hotel. That’s my default peace.
2. What is your principal defect?
A lack of self awareness. Thus this might be a bit difficult.
3. What makes you depressed?
The sad eyes of a puppy in the rain. He’s in an alley. He’s called Patch, look there’s his name on his collar. But it’s raining. There’s a rusty tin can. It’s so sad.
4. What do you most dislike about your appearance?
My aura of invinciblity.
5. What is your favourite word?
Aura. Followed closely by invinciblity.
6. What is your most unappealing habit?
Acting on my aura of invincibility. It has led to many regrettable events for myself, other people and nations.
7. What is your favourite smell?
Hops. I spent late Summers cutting hops in Kent as a teenager.
8. What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Stupid vampire movies.
9. Who are your favourite writers?
Mark Leyner, Jonathan Carroll, Edmund Crispin, Jack Womack, Michael Moorcock.
10. What is the worst job you've done?
A particular paper round which involved ‘turning the bag’ twice. It’s a technical term only paperboys would understand.
11. When did you last cry, and why?
I really can’t remember.
12. What do you most value in you friends?
Their patience.
13. What gift would you most like to possess?
I’m always embarrased by gifts – it’s way better to give than receive if you’re me. And I am me. Saying that, a robot would be cool.
14. What was your most embarrassing moment?
Forgetting my lines twice in the same performance when I had my name in lights in the West End.
15. What is your most treasured possession?
A page of original artwork from V for Vendetta.
16. What is the worst thing anyone's said to you?
You don’t look so invincible to me. They soon regretted their error.
17. If you could edit your past, what would you change?
Nothing. Otherwise I wouldn’t be this person now, ready to change it as it wouldn’t need changing as it wouldn’t have happened and what was the question again?
18. If you could go back in time, where would you go?
Regency London seemed jolly.
19. What is your greatest fear?
Vampire ants.
20. What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
That there’s no point worrying about things you’ve got control over, cause if you’ve got control over them, there’s no pointing in worrying about them. And there’s no point in worrying about things you have no control, because if you’ve got no control over them, there’s no point in worrying.
