Here at Portobello towers, we have been celebrating Paul Kingsnorth. We like to celebrate our authors every day but today we are singling Paul out.
Paul has already been shortlisted for the title of Champion of England and been profiled in the Sun – which is a first for a Portobello author.
On Thursday last week, his book Real England made its appearance on Anthony Gormley's fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square. Well, the book may not have done... but Daisy, a 65-year-old, third generation Londoner, who took the time to talk about the book, did. Hurrah for Daisy, hurrah for Paul!

Nicholas Lezard has said of Real England, 'I would like Gordon Brown to be strapped into a chair and have it read to him. And not let out of it again until he has given Paul Kingsnorth a powerful position in government.' This view is echoed by Daisy, who says, 'everyone in England should read it'.
