Paul Kingsnorth, author of Real England: Battle Against the Bland has been shortlisted for the title of Champion of England by English Heritage, in association with Wells Bombardier. This is a nationwide search to find the Champion of England – a brilliantly English person who helps makes England what it is.
Paul Kingsnorth is one of Britain’s most high-profile young environmental writers and has covered green issues for the Guardian, the Daily Telegraph, the Independent and New Statesman and been deputy editor of The Ecologist. His first book, One No, Many Yeses (Simon & Schuster, 2003), explored the worldwide movement of resistance to globalisation. He has previously worked in an orang utan rehabilitation centre and also, as an assistant lock-keeper on the river Thames.
You can read Paul's views on G20 and the global justice movement in the New Statesman.
'Real England is an urgent, important book, which helps to shape our view of who we are and who we want to be.' George Monbiot
The Champion of England will be presented with the title at a gala lunch on St George's Day by another Champion of England – Sir Geoff Hurst, the only player ever to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final.
Let's get voting for Paul as the Champion of England!
